Slice #15
3D Florals, little luxuries and Lena Dunham's new show...
Hi!
How is this the last summer slice? I swear winter lasts for 10 months and summer is over before we know it. 🥲 Enjoy these picks for August – we’re in the middle of a polka dot pandemic, and if spots aren’t for you, maybe you’ll get on board with the floral corsage trend. As always, give us a like/follow/subscribe on here and on Insta @thecultslice
See you in September!
Wearing…
Seeing spots is no bad thing this summer, as every designer from Jacquemus to Valentino sent dots of all sizes down the runway. This classic print is divisive as it can easily fall into twee territory, but, when done right, looks effortlessly chic.
Dance the polka in these bits this summer:
Mango Polka Dot Satin Scarf - £12.99 – the perfect spotty accessory, tie it round your neck with a plain tee or loop it to your bag.
Polka Dot Nano Ganni Bou Bag - £195 – never met a Ganni bag I didn't like, and this one is tiny and cute.
Damson Madder Lilo Mini Dress - £75 – can be worn as a babydoll dress AND a midi skirt? Sold.
Sleeper Jardin Polka Dot Maxi Dress - £300 – pack and take on holiday for Flamenco vibes.
Kiss The Sky Polka Dot Co-ord - £32/£54 – pretty, but still cool. Wear with sandals and stacked cuffs.
Beauty Edit…
Little luxuries to make you feel good this month:
The Outset Lip Oasis - £22 – Scarlett Johansson’s lip treatment is high shine AND hydrating, like skincare for your lips.
Paul & Joe Cafe Terrace Eyeshadow Palette - £37 – I don’t even want to use this, I just want to look at it?
Prada Beauty Banana Balm - £40 – so fun, so silly.
Jo Malone Seaside Scents - from £56 – they had me at the striped bows on the bottles, not gonna lie.
MAC Lipglazer Glossy Liner - £20 – available in classics like Velvet Teddy and Lady Danger, pair with your fave shade and top with a gloss.
Obsessing Over…
Too Much, Netflix – Lena Dunham’s new show may not have the cultural impact of Girls, but it’s fun and definitely worth a watch.
Scran & Roadie, Glasgow – The latest iteration of Scran (3.0?) combines brunch favourites in the AM with 20” pizzas or single slices in the PM. What’s not to love?
I Who Have Never Known Men, Jacqueline Harpman – Reading dystopian fiction these days feels a lot less fun, but I’ve never read anything like it. Inhaled.
Sisi, Glasgow – I was lucky enough to visit Sisi before the rooftop bar and restaurant officially opens in August. Can confirm the tacos are great and the vibes immaculate.
Babel, R.F. Kuang – Part fantasy, part history lesson, I’m halfway through this and the Oxford University setting gives this novel a Harry Potter-esque feeling that I’m not mad at.
Trending…
My Mastermind subject could be “every time Carrie Bradshaw wore a 3D floral appliqué or oversized corsage”. Girly loved a big flower and they created some of her most memorable looks (American Girl in Paris striped top, anyone?) This season, shy and retiring wallflowers can stick to ditsy prints, but these sculptural florals were made to be noticed.
3D florals that Carrie would love:
Aje Pandorea Layered Top - around £240 – the definition of what to wear when the dress code is “jeans and a nice top”.
Maygel Coronel Calia Dress - £351 – ticking 2 trend boxes with corsages and cut-outs.
M&S Organza Block Heel Sandals - £55 – sorry, I nearly passed out when I saw these were M&S?! Their shoe designers never miss.
Accessorize Corsage Clip Frame Bag - £22.50 – this cute clutch will go with everything.
French Connection 3D Floral Shirt - £45 – dress up your workwear (it’s also 50% off!)
V by Very Rara Corsage Mini Dress - £42 – super cute, maximise the ruffles and pair it with those M&S heels.
