Slice #16
Cow print, slogan tees and the best doughnuts in town...
Welcome to your back-to-school slice, and who doesn’t start the new term looking a little different? 👀 I can’t believe it’s autumn and I can’t believe it’s been 365 days since I last wrote that sentence. If your new season wishlist is ever-growing, make sure it includes some trending cow print and a statement slogan tee. On a no-buy? Fill September with the latest pods, books and films!

If you’re sick of spotting leopard print and think snakeskin is history, make way for the must-have animal print of the season: cow. Take inspo from the Gestuz runway and Patricia Arquette in 1993’s True Romance and add some cow print to your moo-d board (sorry.) Autumn’s cow prints should feel chic rather than cartoon, look for pieces in luxe chocolate brown or faux fur. I’m obsessed with H&M’s Mary-Janes and this & Other Stories tote is perfect if you missed the viral M&S one.
Leaving the house for…

I used to dream of opening a donut shop, so when I heard Kitty’s Donuts were getting their own premises, I was there with bells on. The ‘70s aesthetic inside is just as good as the baked goods (can recommend both the chocolate and strawberry ring), and I’ll be back until I get my hands on the elusive Biscoff-filled donut.
If you need a new spot for dinner with friends, Corner Shop is the perfect addition to the West End. The vibe is relaxed, but the Catalan-inspired menu and extensive wine list suggest this isn’t your average café/bar. It is slightly on the pricey side and the portions could be bigger for sharing, but overall, it’s worth a visit. Shoutout to the potatoes with aioli that give Five March a run for their money.
Glasgow has its fair share of activity-based places that both adults and kids enjoy, the latest being Kingpins in Silverburn. The games hub is home to ten pin bowling, tech darts, pool, ice-free curling and more, it also sports a mini arcade with grabber games, shooters and air hockey. Once you’re suitably exhausted, grab a drink at the bar and recharge with some fried chicken and pizza.
I’ve been a Dishoom fan for around 10 years (I even had it delivered during lockdown!) and I’m more than willing to travel for a sausage naan. Luckily, now I don’t have to as the Bombay eatery has finally made its way to our fair city. Located in the old Stock Exchange, the interiors are inspired by 1950’s Bombay Noir film and they’ve even created the ‘Haggis Pau’ as a Glasgow breakfast special.
Reading, watching, listening to…

Some things I’ve been consuming this month…
So Thrilled For You, Holly Bourne – I thought this was going to be a lighthearted tale and, reader, it was not. Loved the different perspectives of all the women regarding having/wanting children, but potentially needs a trigger warning if you’ve recently had or are planning to have a baby any time soon. 😬
Together/Weapons – every season is spooky season for me, so I got stuck into two of the latest horror releases. No spoilers, so I’ll just say Together was my winner, but both are worth a watch.
Sentimental Garbage/ It’s Me, Tinx – recent episodes of both pods covered the final episode of And Just Like That. Tinx gives a serious and considered review, meanwhile, I laughed out loud in public listening to Caroline O’Donoghue and Dolly Alderton’s loving takedown.
Grind X Beauty Pie collab – I love Grind coffee, I drink their house blend and it’s genuinely a tiny joy I get to look forward to every day. I also love when they do collabs with other brands I love! This month, they’ve teamed up with Beauty Pie for a limited edition bundle that includes coffee, the collab tin, a 3 month Beauty Pie subscription and a box of under-eye gels to use while you’re sipping your morning cappuccino – some collabs just make sense 🤝

Call it a recession indicator, but slogan tees haven’t been this big since Henry Holland sent his homage to Agyness Deyn, Giles Deacon and pals down the runway in 2007. This season, slogans splashed across chests are being used to take a stance or make a political statement – enter Pedro Pascal wearing his Conner Ives “Protect the Dolls” tee or Cate Blanchett stepping out in a sequinned “Wow what a shitshow” t-shirt by Ashish. For a more playful take, check out these pieces by Praying and Jaded London, I also love Stella McCartney’s “Mother” vest, as seen on Dua Lipa.

Ohh first autumn inspo!! 🍁🎃
