Happy Halloween! Luckily, this month’s slice is all treats and no tricks. Trying new foodie places (at home or in a new city) is probably one of my favourite things, and I’m always working my way through a never-ending list of bars and restaurants. I’ve been all around the towns and everything this month, so I thought I’d dedicate this slice to some of the best places I’ve eaten in the last 30 days…
Boca, Glasgow
This Southside sandwich shop is hidden off the beaten track in The Cooperage – so if you don’t know it’s there, there’s a high chance you could miss it. Which would be a shame because these sandwiches are GOOD! I tried a foccacia with bacalao fritters and tartare sauce and the roast ham and chorizo with smoked cheese. Both banging, both massive. You won’t need to eat for the rest of the day.
Spot, Palma
Described as having “a cosmopolitan atmosphere with island vibes”, you feel immediately at home when you walk into Spot. That is, if your home was a rusticly cool space with infinite ceramics, perfect tablescaping and lighting. The vibes were enough to sell it to me, but luckily, the food and drinks were also excellent. Highlights were the pulled pork tacos and miso cauliflower, washed down with a sharp and citrussy clover club cocktail. If you’re looking for a restaurant for your next Majorcan city break, this is the spot.
Sears Pizza, Glasgow
It’s not difficult to find a decent pizza in Glasgow, but we were lacking a slice shop, especially since Baked closed in the East End. In, out, no messing about, Sear’s offers quick and fuss-free NY-style slices for a decent price. I opted for classic pepperoni and a Sear’s slice (vodka sauce, mozza and pesto), with some ranch for dipping, obv, and had zero complaints. Perfect crust, no soggy bottom (like you know who 👀) and perfectly situated next to Vino Valentino wine bar to pop in for a pinot afterwards. Can’t wait to go back!
Black Bear Burger, London
I don’t often get a burger, but recently I found myself in London for work and wanted to grab something quick after a long day. I popped into Market Halls at Victoria as I knew they had a Black Bear Burger stand, and I’d heard good things. I went for the bacon burger with miso butter mayo and inhaled it in around 3 bites. It was everything you could want in a burger. My only regret? I didn’t get fries. Find Black Bear in Victoria, Camden, Brixton and Boxpark.
Peacock’s, Glasgow
Lastly, we always need to finish with something sweet. Enter: my new favourite ice cream shop. Peacock’s on Battlefield Road is “on a mission to make the best ice cream you’ve ever tasted.” And they REALLY have. The shop has 6 signature flavours and 6 limited edition flavours that change weekly. I got a scoop of Canadian Campfire signature (toasted marshmallow ice cream with Belgian chocolate and cracker pieces), a scoop of caramel shortcake and added rainbow sprinkles. I think it changed my life? I RAVED about this, and have thought about it pretty much every day since. *sigh* Love you, Peacock’s. 😍

Some of the best things I’ve watched this month, in no particular order…
⭐ Nobody Wants This – Seth Cohen 2.0
⭐ The Perfect Couple – fun, murderous vibes.
⭐ The Substance – WOW.
⭐ Hysteria – Stranger Things, but more satanic.
⭐ Big Brother – of course.
Still thinking about the pulled pork tacos 🤩
